Welcome to Tarangire
About Tarangire National Park
Tarangire is a 2,600-square-kilometer wildlife sanctuary, renowned for its dense concentrations of animals and timeless landscapes.
It hosts one of Africa’s largest elephant populations, with herds reaching up to 300 individuals. The park is also home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and African buffalo, making it a haven for big game enthusiasts.
For bird watchers, Tarangire offers unmatched diversity, with over 545 recorded species soaring above ancient baobab trees—some more than 600 years old.
The park is also known for one of Africa’s most iconic and enduring natural symbols, the baobab tree, often called the “Tree of Life”. Some baobabs in Tarangire are over 600 years old, their massive trunks storing thousands of liters of water to survive long droughts. These ancient giants provide shelter, food, and nesting grounds for birds, insects, and mammals alike—forming a vital part of the savanna ecosystem. Their striking silhouette is especially captivating at sunrise and sunset.
